A wedding can be a whirlwind of emotions, stunning details, and once in a lifetime moments…many of which are easy to miss in the rush of the day. That’s exactly where Jana, owner of Wedding Day Bestie, steps in. As a content creator, Jana captures the candid, joyful moments that couples want to relive long after the day ends. From behind-the-scenes clips to special moments, her work tells the story of your day in a way that feels intimate, authentic, and beautiful.

In this latest ‘5 questions’ feature, we asked Jana five questions about her services, her style, and what couples can expect when they bring a dedicated content creator into their wedding team. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to have someone capture the unseen magic of your day in real time, you won’t want to miss her insights.

What is a content creator (specifically in relation to the wedding industry)?

Content creators by nature capture and document life, it’s what we do! You probably already follow creators online, whether for entertainment, inspiration, or just a daily escape. Social media has completely changed how we consume and create media, and in turn, how brands and businesses show up online.

In the wedding world, a wedding day content creator is there to document your day in the most candid and authentic way possible. Think of us as your personal paparazzi, a fly on the wall capturing moments as they naturally unfold. Nothing is posed or staged; as you experience the day, we’re capturing it alongside you so you can remember it exactly as it felt.

Every couple says the same thing, the day flies by. You’re caught up in the day, all the emotions, and you have no idea where your phone even is (which is exactly how it should be!). That’s where we come in. We capture all the fleeting, beautiful, in-between moments so you can relive them right after.

Our content is delivered within 24 hours, so you can wake up the next morning, scroll through your wedding memories, and truly feel the day all over again.

How did you get started to be a content creator?

I first started my social media marketing agency back in 2019 while I was in university, it was just an idea at first, and then I decided to actually go for it. I loved helping local businesses show up and thrive on social media (and I still do that today!). At the same time, I was also creating content for my Calgary lifestyle blog Living Good with Jana, but I knew I wanted more. I’ve always been that person chasing what makes me happy and keeps me creatively busy.

In 2022, I came across wedding day content creation on TikTok and saved it right away as something I wanted to eventually try. I kept seeing more posts pop up, and one day I just made a post from my agency page saying I now offer this service, totally on a whim.

Honestly, I’ve always been that friend with the phone. The one everyone asks to “send me the pics” at the end of the night. I’ve been creating and documenting life for as long as I can remember, posting Facebook albums back in junior high, running multiple blogs when I was sharing little stories (and recipes at one point) online.

I studied Business at the Haskayne School of Business (University of Calgary) and started my agency as both a creative outlet and a side hustle, since I was working part-time and wanted to do more for myself and my future. I always knew I wanted to run my own business, I just didn’t know what it would be until about 2.5 years ago. After posting that first static post in November 2022, I got one booking and was honestly shocked! I was still figuring out what exactly I was offering at the time, but I knew I loved the idea of it.

By early 2023, I realized no one in Calgary, or even much of Alberta, was really doing this yet. It was still a brand-new concept in Canada. One day, I sat down, filmed a video announcing that I offer wedding day content creation, and hit post. I hadn’t even done a wedding yet, but I knew I had the creative instincts and passion for this!

In May 2023, I officially left my 9-5 to work for myself full time. Around that same time, I booked my first wedding, right before a trip, and just made it work. I threw myself into it to learn as I went, and I haven’t looked back since.

It all really stemmed from my love of storytelling and documenting life. Creating content has always been part of who I am, and turning that passion into a business, especially in the wedding space, has been the best decision I’ve ever made.

What do you enjoy the most about your work?

I love the emotional side of it…the people, the energy, the joy. Working with couples, their families, guests, and with the vendors, it’s such a full-circle experience. The day is always go-go-go (which fits me and my work style perfectly!), and while there’s a timeline, things constantly shift, so you have to be present and quick on your feet.

What really gets me is the reaction after, the morning texts, the messages from couples freaking out over their content, saying they can’t stop rewatching it. It’s the best feeling knowing I helped them relive their day exactly as it happened.

My grandpa always said to work in a field that fulfills you, and that really stuck with me. This work is fulfilling in every sense. It’s creative, emotional, and meaningful, and it allows me to do what I love while giving people memories they’ll cherish forever!

What was the most memorable wedding you’ve worked at?

Every wedding I’ve worked on has been so unique, the people, the energy, the vibes. But the most memorable one has to be Madeleine White and Andrew Fedyk’s wedding in Santorini this past summer. My content from their wedding was featured in VOGUE, as I had specific deliverables for them, it honestly felt like I won the lottery! I am still processing this experience months later haha…

It was my first wedding of that scale, so I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t stressful. Once the day arrived, I just focused on doing what I do best, capturing content, connecting with people, and documenting the day in the most real way possible.

It was a three-day celebration, with long back-to-back days and more deliverables than any other wedding I’d done. But it was also one of the most rewarding experiences of my career, being able to capture something so beautiful in such an iconic location and see it recognized on an international level was unreal.

What advice do you have for couples who aren’t sure if they need a content creator?

My biggest advice is to really think about how much value video has in storytelling, it’s such a magical way to relive your day. Video clips capture the sounds, movement, emotions, and little in-between moments that bring it all to life.

You spend months (sometimes years!) planning this one day, and it truly goes by in a blur. Having those memories documented means you’ll get to rewatch them for years to come, they become something you can share with family, friends, and even future generations.

Your friends and family should be fully present, enjoying the day with you, not worrying about taking videos. And you shouldn’t be either. That’s exactly why hiring a content creator is worth it: we capture everything so you can just be there.

At the end of the day, memories are priceless, and this is one of the few investments that keeps giving joy long after the wedding ends.
